about

The horn that you hear throughout the song is a reconstruction of the Kvalsund megaphone, found on the Kvalsund ship, dating to 690 AD. Together with a smaller boat the ship was found during work on the farm Kvalsund on Nerlandsøy in Herøy (Norway). Kvalsund was a warship, broken completely in the straits and burried as a sacrifice to the gods.

Norðrhaf means ''North Sea'' in Old Norse. The song contains a large frame drum, bodhran, throat chanting, whispers and chants in old norse, deep humming vocals, and the kvalsund megaphone. I even used some of my real north sea recordings of the waves and wind when I was there last week.
The polyrhythms are inspired by my favorite norse artist Einar Selvik and his work for AC Valhalla.
