about
A germanic war song, partly inspired by the Northman's amazing Berserker scene. It's my take on the legendary bear-warriors from the Viking age and Koryos from Indo European history. In this one the focus lies on the primal power of the war drums and gutteral chants.
Berserkers were Viking age warriors who fought in a state of fury; in this state they were formidable warriors and seemingly invincible to pain.
They wore skins from bears that they would have killed by hand. They wore those bearskins to take advantage of people's fear of wild animals. ''Ber'' means bear, and ''serk'' means skin in Old Norse. When they plunged into battle, they shed their bearskins and fought bare-chested.
Berserkers trace their roots to the Indo-European Koryos warriors, who also wore animal pelts into battle. These warriors would have prolonged war dances and battle songs that would slowly drive the participants into a battle fury.
