about
A piece I wrote inspired by the meandering rivers, streams and the ambience of deciduous forests. Ever since writing the piece, I found Open Skies had a kind of ''The Road Goes Ever On'' or ''Forest Path'' type of feel, with a restful, peaceful and bittersweet tone.
I made the violins play the lead melody in the first half and the second half of the song the cellos pick up the melody, doubled with violas. The soloists, the cello and violin also get more time to shine in this version.
The Beyond Skyrim composers have done a fascinating job at trying to follow in Soule's footsteps while also tapping into a side of Tamriel not seen in previous entries: a world defeated that is clinging to past pride. It's most notable in perhaps the anthem of Beyond Skyrim which is Daniel Ran's "Of Storms and Half light". Alex and the others do the same kind of work here and it produces a number of wonderful listens. "Heartland" is by far my favorite, the flute in it is chill-invoking.

Lovely epic and melancholy evocations of fantasy-themed winterscapes. Truly orchestral ambience; in fact, the album almost feels neoclassical to me at times. As I listen a hush falls upon the land while the snowflakes gently swirl from heaven to earth, and their icy kisses upon my cheeks turn to tears of loneliness in my heart. Yet my quest remains the same, so I turn and crunch first one foot, then the other, into the path beneath the newfallen snow. Dave Aftandilian
