about
''Veidr'' meaning ''hunt'' or ''chase'' in Old Norse is a song that has a fast, intense rhythm. Hunting on horseback using falcons (the Falconry practice) to track down prey was a way of hunting in ancient germanic and viking culture. In the song, I've used some of my falcon, horse and forest recordings to immerse yourself into this atmosphere. Imagine a horse chase in ancient times, chasing down prey or a ritual song for hunting, to bless the men going out into the woods.
Interesting to note is the iron cowbell that can be heard at the end of the song, which was found in Hejnum (Gotland) in Sweden and dates to rougly 400-500 A.D.
I've also used a ram's horn which was used for hunting purposes, unlike the cow horn, which was used for warfare in the viking age (and other germanic cultures as well).
Some of the other featured instruments are a big 24 inch frame drum, khoomei singing, chants, breaths, bullroarer, bone flute, tagelharpa, wooden sticks and a shaker made from deer antlers.
Also interesting to note is the bodhran polyrhythm in the beginning of the song that mimics a slow gallop, which doubles its speed near the end of the song to mimic a fast gallop. Once again the polyrhythms are inspired by my favorite norse artist Einar Selvik and his various works.

Gaetir has a unique approach to Germanic folk, and it touches on an aspect of the old mindset and way of life that other folk artists capture in a select few songs, not entire albums. That is the Faustian Spirit: a celebration of the majesty of the infinite expanse and the unknown, infused with awe, fear, and curiosity. Gaetir captures this sometimes destructive yet irresistible attraction to the more primordial reaches of the cosmic thread. Highly recommend listening during storms. Rúnatal

Fantastic release, a unique blend of dark Ambient, neo folk, traditional Nordic music with a touch of neoclassical elements as well. Honestly have never heard anything quite like this, and they manage to make it all blend together seamlessly to create a truly epic listening experience. Thomas
